Jardin
2017 Place du Levant, Louvain-la-Neuve BE
Curated by Angel Vergara and Joël Benzakin
Jardin staged a number of discarded concrete objects that were salvaged by the artist from the city’s vaults. The damaged remains, emblematic of the promise of a new city Louvain-la-Neuve, translating as ‘New Louvain’, testified of the elusivness of time. As they regained their primary exposure and repopulated the concrete city, the green paint that coloured their raw surfaces suggested that their ‘hard’ materiality was as elusive as the passing of time they bore the marks of.
This installation was part of the city-wide exhibition OH LES BEAUX JOURS!
