Enigmas

2022 Utrecht NL

Due to it’s 900th anniversary, the city of Utrecht commissioned the creation of an artwork for its public space. This work had to be visible from the 112 meters high Dom tower.

Utrecht is known for the vertical layers in its historic architecture, with some of the oldest medieval houses having two-floor deep cellars (‘werfkelders’). The top of the Dom Tower is at the other end of that story.

One of the objectives of the proposal was, when looking down at the city, to create an imaginary dept in already existing places.

Four large drawings and one sculpture were created that would cause small enigma’s on ground level. But when looking from above creating an illusion of 3d architectural structures.
